Drupal for nonprofits

Drupal is powerful for complex content models — and expensive to staff well. CauseHouse builds WordPress and Next.js. We help nonprofits and institutions evaluate Drupal honestly and migrate off it when the talent math no longer works.

Advisory page. CauseHouse primarily implements WordPress, Next.js, and the CRM/fundraising stacks listed across Platforms. This page helps you evaluate fit and migration — not a claim that we run a full-time implementation studio for every tool named here.

Best suited for

Where this platform earns its place.

  • Orgs already funding Drupal talent successfully
  • Teams planning a migration off Drupal
  • Procurement conversations that need an honest alternative analysis
Structured platform architecture for mission-driven organizations
In depth

How we think about this stack.

Drupal’s real strength

Large information architectures, structured content, and mature workflows can thrive in Drupal when you have Drupal-fluent developers and a governance model. Government and large institutions sometimes standardize on it for those reasons.

The nonprofit staffing problem

Most mid-size nonprofits cannot retain Drupal specialists. Updates stall, modules rot, and emergency vendors become the only path. If your Drupal estate depends on one contractor who might retire, that is an operational risk — not a branding preference.

How we help

We run risk reviews, compare Drupal vs WordPress for your capacity, and execute migrations into stacks we support. We do not operate as a Drupal implementation shop.

Warm hearth representing a durable institutional home

Where it performs well

  • Complex content modeling with specialist teams
  • Large institutional estates with established Drupal hosting

Common limitations

  • Scarce talent for many nonprofits
  • CauseHouse does not build new Drupal sites as a core practice
CauseHouse services

What we typically provide.

  • Drupal estate risk review

Staffing, module debt, hosting, and update hygiene assessed before rebuild capital.

  • Stay-vs-leave recommendation

Operational math — not brand preference — for whether Drupal still fits.

  • Content model inventory

Content types, views, and media libraries documented before any migration.

  • Migration off Drupal

Structured move into WordPress or Next.js with redirects and SEO care.

  • SEO preservation planning

Crawl, URL map, and post-cutover monitoring for institutional sites.

  • RFP / procurement advisory

Help evaluate Drupal requirements when an RFP forces the conversation.

Migration considerations

Content types, views, and media libraries need inventory. Do not treat Drupal exit as a theme swap.

Integrations

  • Varies widely; document every active module and external feed before moving

Accessibility

Drupal can meet WCAG-oriented targets with disciplined themes. Migration is a chance to fix authoring guardrails.

Common project mistakes

  • Staying on Drupal without a staffing plan
  • Migrating without a redirect inventory
Questions

Before you standardize on a stack.

Do you build new Drupal sites?
No — not as a core practice. We advise and migrate into WordPress or Next.js.
Can you help if our RFP requires Drupal?
We can help you evaluate requirements and risks. Delivery would need a Drupal partner if the RFP is binding.
